Reasons Why You Can’t Open Company Files in QuickBooks

There could be many factors that can block you from accessing the files and lead to different errors. These factors can be:

  • Outdated QuickBooks version.
  • Damaged or corrupted Data.

Fixing Can’t Open Company Files in QuickBooks Issue

To fix errors that are preventing file access, use QuickBooks Tools Hub and update the software.

Solution 1: Update QuickBooks

Check for the Latest Released Version of QuickBooks

  • Launch QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Press F2 (or Ctrl+1).
  • Open the Product Information window.
  • Here, you can view your current version and release information.
  • If you’re using the latest release, there’s no need for an update. If the application is of an old version, update it. 

Install the Update

  • Select Update available.
  • Click on Install Now.
  • Proceed with the installation.
  • Wait until the update has finished installing.

Solution 2: Use QB Tools Hub

Step 1: Download the Tools Hub

  • Close QuickBooks.
  • Download the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  • Save the file.
  • You can choose to save it on your desktop or in your downloads folder.
  • If you have already installed the Tool Hub, check the current version by going to the Home tab and looking at the bottom.
  • Open the QuickBooksToolHub.exe file.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Install the tool.
  • Agree to the terms and conditions.
  • Once complete, double-click the icon to open it.
  • Access the Tool Hub.

Step 2: Access the File Doctor

  • Launch the Tool Hub.
  • Click on Company File Issues.
  • Choose Run QuickBooks File Doctor.
  • Allow a few moments. The tool will load.
  • If it doesn’t open automatically, you can manually search for it.
  • Once it’s open, select your company file.
  • If your file isn’t listed, click on Browse to find it.
  • Select Check your file and Network.
  • Click on Continue.
  • Enter your admin password.
  • Click Next to proceed.
  • Finally, check to see if the error has been resolved.

Step 3: Use QB Install Diagnostic Tool

  • Open the QB Tool Hub.
  • Select Installation Issues.
  • Select QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool.
  • The tool will start running.
  • Wait for it. 
  • It will take 20 minutes.
  • When done, restart your computer.
  • Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Access your data file.
